Welcome to our “All-Day Service” and Fellowship Luncheon Day.  It is always a wonderful day of worship and fellowship.  We will study God’s word during our Bible class session, worship God together and then break to share a wonderful lunch together.  Then, immediately following our lunch we will reconvene for our evening worship time.  There will be no 6:00 service today.  If you are visiting with us, please stay and be a part of this special time.

Also, today, we will begin a series of two lessons (today and next Sunday) asking “What does it mean to be lost’ and “What does it mean to be saved”,  It is really easy to totally lose sight of the reason for our existence in this world.  We get so caught up in the every day activities, businesses, school activities and recreation that we can think of or about nothing else.  We need to know and understand why we even exist in this world to begin with and then, what it is that we are to really focus on while we are here.  Our God created us for a specific purpose which He, Himself, stated for us in Isaiah 43:7 where He says, “Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made." Did you notice, we were created for the specific purpose of glorifying Almighty God. That is to be our number one purpose in our lives in this world.  So, how do we glorify God?  By obeying Him through obedience to His Word.  In the beginning man failed to do this and brought sin into our world.  Sin is failing to obey God in any way - by thoughts or actions.  So, now we have to deal with sin in our lives, that is, failure to obey God and put Him first in our lives.

What it all comes down to is this, either we obey and honor God and save our souls eternally with God or we fail to obey and honor Him and lose our souls for eternity.  We must understand, our lives here on this earth is our “probationary” time given us by God.  He has created us, put us here, told us what He expects of us and has given us the freedom to chose which we will do - serve Him or serve ourselves.  He has also told us what will be the reward of both choices.  Look at Romans 6:16 where the apostle Paul says, “Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?”  He also said here in this same chapter, vs 23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

All of us will spend eternity in one of two places, hell or heaven.  What determines which place, our obedience to God in every aspect of our lives.  Do we truly honor and give glory to God with our lives.  These two lessons for today and next Sunday are designed to give us a vivid picture of what it will be like to be in each of these two places.

Until next week, I love you all,

Dan
