This is Thanksgiving Week, a national holiday established many years ago.  It began in the 1600’s with local celebrations among the pilgrims and then was established as a National Holiday by President George Washington in 1789.  They thought we needed a time for all of us, as a nation, to just stop and give thanks to Almighty God for all He has done and is doing.  While I certainly have no problem with this at all, in fact, I think it is probably a good thing, should we just stop and thank God once a year for all He has done and is doing for us?  Absolutely not!  That should be something we do every day of our lives, and again, not just once a day but several times a day.  What do we have to be so thankful for?  Sometimes it is hard for us to truly see the good for all the bad that is happening to us and around us.  Well, that is exactly where the Devil wants us to be.  He does not want us to see, much less focus on, the good God does for us.

Do we really have any idea of the good that is happening?  There is so much bad stuff today with all the attacks, shootings, robberies, etc. that it is really hard to see any good that is happening.  Brethren, we received a monthly report this last week on the work that is taking place in India.  Do you have any idea how many people in India were converted to Christ last year (2016)?  This report says that one million in India were converted to Christ just last year.  I have to tell you, that blew my mind when I read that.  Especially with all the attacks taking place against religion as a whole here in the United States.  But, we still have people here, right here in the U.S. that are being converted to Christ.  We have some right here in our congregation.  We also just got this month’s report from the SEARCH program and in it Phil Sanders tells about a man brought to Christ as a direct result of watching SEARCH.  And, we know there are many others we are not aware of doing the same.  The whole point of this is, we need to understand that, even with all the bad that is happening all around us, God is still here and is still bringing good things about.  Satan doesn’t want us to see anything or focus on anything but the bad.  But, the proof of the existence of God and His goodness is all around us if we will just look for it.

Brethren, as we approach this national day of Thanksgiving, may it remind us of all we have to be thankful for!  May it help us to remember that we need to be thankful, truly grateful, NOT once a year, not once a month but every minute of every day of our lives for all that our God has done for us.

With all of this, Pam and I wish all of you a very happy Thanksgiving Holiday.  Pam and I hope to be able to spend the holiday with our family in Shawnee and we hope that all of you will be able to spend time with your families as well.
Until next week, I love you all,
                                     Dan
