We had a good men’s meeting last Sunday evening with a lot of different things discussed. One was a singing ministry. This would be a group that would get together ever so often and go sing for our shut-ins at home or in nursing homes. Jimmy Leopard is working on getting this started. Another thing discussed was the possibility of getting some good flyers for us to use to pass out at the local parades here in Wagoner. A way to get the church out there publicly for people to know about us. We will be looking for good brochures to use for this. Another suggestion made was a men’s Bible class. This would be similar to the ladies Bible class during the week. A time for our men to come together and study God’s word in studies specifically for men to help all of us mature and be what God would have us to be as men in the church. The men all thought this was a good idea, so we will be working on trying to get this set up and started. A question was asked about the amount set up in the budget for “speakers”. This was explained that it was for those who come and preach and teach here to fill in for Dan or do our Gospel Meetings. Courtlan Thompson said he would be glad to fill in any time he could that would save the church some funds. The men emphasized they want to recompense those who step up to do this and Courtlan said he understood but he would take a lot less than bringing in someone from out of town. The men all appreciated all that was said on this. Another thing brought up was our need to try to reach out to those who have fallen away from the Lord and His church. This is something that we must all seriously consider. We, just like all congregations, have some who have fallen away or just not very faithful in attendance. We need to do all we can to reach out to these brethren and try to get them back faithful to the Lord to save their souls. After this, our Bible class curriculum was discussed, especially for our children’s classes. The men want to make sure our teachers have good materials for teaching our children the Bible. Not having the good Bible materials tends to turn Bible class into a play time instead of Bible learning time. So, we will be looking and researching to find the best materials we can get to provide for all who have volunteered to help teach in these classes. After all these discussions it was suggested we move our monthly meetings to the second Sunday instead of the first Sunday. The purpose was to make it easier to get updated financial statements so we would have more complete information to work with. The men all approved this, so we will be meeting on the second Sunday of the month from now on.
It was very obvious that the men of this congregation want to do all they can to serve the Lord and help this congregation be as effective as we can possibly be.
Until next week, I love you all,
Dan
