So, why am I talking about all of this? If these special times together as physical family is so important and means so much to us, have you ever really thought what coming together in heaven with all of our spiritual family will be like? And, not just our spiritual family from our own individual congregations but all of God’s family, all of those who have faithfully served Him since the creation of this world. If we faithfully serve and obey God, then we are God’s family. “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him” (Romans 8:16-17). All who have faithfully served and obeyed God will be together in heaven for eternity. This will be the grandest reunion ever. To be reunited with those of our physical families who were faithful to the Lord, with those of our spiritual family we have grown so close to over the years will be wonderful. But, think also about those before us, those who saw those they loved so dearly having their lives taken by those opposing Christ and Christianity. Think about Peter, James, Stephen, Paul and all the others who were physically separated from each other by the death of persecution and how they will be reunited with each other for eternity. Just this, by itself, gives us an idea of how great the joy will be in heaven.
But, this brings up another thought, another question. Into which are we putting the most effort, the most time, the most work? Are we spending our time and effort planning for our physical family time for the holidays or preparing ourselves for that greatest time, that greatest reunion ever, being literally united with God, with Christ, with the Holy Spirit, with the saints of all the ages for eternity?
Brethren, as we approach this special holiday time and that New Year coming in just four weeks, we need to give serious thought as to where we will put our greatest effort.
Until next week, I love you all,
Dan
