Our coming together to worship our God and enjoy our fellowship together should be something very special to every Christian. Why? Because of the very special things that happen during this time together. First of all, in addition to the great fellowship with our God and ourselves, it is a time for us to study, grow and mature in God’s word. It is God’s word that tells us what is right and wrong in the world around us, that tells us what we must do to live our lives in a way that pleases God and sets an example for the world around us. But, then secondly, it’s our being together by which we are strengthened to face the difficulties of this world. We all face difficult times, hard times. Being with other Christians that we know are also facing hard times and staying faithful is a strength for us just as we want to be a strength to them. To build one another up, to encourage one another to stay faithful is a very important part of our time of worship and fellowship together. Listen as the writer of the Hebrews letter refers to this very thing in Hebrews 10:24-25 where he says, “ and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,
not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.” Did you hear what he says here? We are to “stimulate” one another and be “encouraging” to one another. How? By not forsaking our assembling together.
So, as we enjoy this very special day of worship and fellowship, let us all do all we can to truly build up, stimulate and encourage one another in every way possible in our service to God as His people, His children, as the church, the Body of His Son.
Until next week, I love you all,
Dan
