Last week we talked about all the challenges many of us are facing and how we should be dealing with them. There are times when these things make us want to throw up our hands and quit.  What can we do to overcome, to succeed?  The following article by brother Tommy Gaither give us an answer to this.

JOIN ME IN A “LITTLE EXTRA EFFORT”

The difference between success and failure is often determined by the willingness to put forth that “little extra effort.”  The margin of success may be very small but, it is that “little extra effort” that spells success.  We need to be gently reminded that there are areas where our putting forth that “little extra effort” will make the difference between a good church and a really great church:

** That “little extra effort” gets us to Bible class as well as worship on the Lord’s Day.

** That “little extra effort” will bring us back to the evening worship and mid-week Bible study.

** That “little extra effort” will cause us to spend more time in private study of God’s word.

** That “little extra effort” will help us be more sacrificial in our giving as measured by our prosperity instead of our carnal nature that says give as little as possible.

** That “little extra effort” will lead us into a compassionate concern for the lost and wayward and remind us to speak to them about their spiritual condition.

** That “little extra effort” will help us engage wholeheartedly and attentively in all phases of our worship.

**  That “little extra effort” will move us to get involved in every activity of the work of the local church

Of course, there is that “little extra” that we must avoid.   We must avoid “extra” things, even very small things, which add to, or take away from, or in any way violate God’s word.  His word alone does its effective work when it is followed as God’s only revelation to man.  Then it is the sole guide to our soul’s salvation.

Let us all diligently apply ourselves to give that “little extra effort” and make the Lord’s church the really great church it deserves to be for our Lord.

Some really good thoughts from brother Gaither.  Tommy Gaither has worked with the Walnut Congregation in Texarkana, TX for many years as their prison and outreach minister.

Until next week, I love you all,
Dan
