This evening, in our men’s meeting, we will do the final planning for our public advertising for our meeting. That is, what ads to put in our local paper and, any other means of publicly getting the news out to our community about this very special effort to share the gospel of Christ other than the flyers we have made available in several different ways.
Brethren, sometimes it is very easy for us to get so consumed with all that is going on around us, seeing all the bad stuff happening from bad weather events, like all the hurricanes and earthquakes, to bad people events, like the shooting a week ago at a church of Christ, and decide there really isn’t any reason to try because it just won’t work anyway. We must understand, this is exactly what the Devil wants to use, these things, to accomplish. He will use all the bad stuff of this world to convince us there is no need to try. Well, I want to share a story with you I’ve seen posted from several different areas recently. It is about a group of Geography students who has studied the Seven Wonders Of The World. As they finished the study the students were asked to list what they considered to be the seven wonders of the world. Of course, there was considerable disagreement among them but, the following got the most votes: Egypt’s Great Pyramid, the Taj Mahal, the Grand Canyon, The Panama Canal, The Empire State Building, St. Peter’s Basilica and China’s Great Wall.
While gathering all the votes together the teacher noticed that one student, a quiet young girl, hadn’t turned in her paper with her choices yet. So, she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. She replied, “Yes, a little. I couldn’t quite make up my mind because there were so many.” The teacher said, “Well, tell us what you have and, maybe we can help.” The girl read, “I think the Seven Wonders Of The World are to touch and to taste, to see and to hear...She hesitated a little, and then to run and to laugh and to love.” The teacher looked at her in shock because she had absolutely no response to what she just heard.
Brethren, it is really easy to let the physical things of this world around us take our minds away from the power of God and what He has done and can do. We need to listen to the words of David in Psalms 77:11-14 where he said, “I will remember the works of the Lord; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all Your work, and talk of Your deeds….Who is so great a God as our God? You are the God who does wonders.” May we never forget, it is God who is in control, the God who does wonders. Never forget this as we prepare for our meeting.
Until next week, I love you all,
Dan
